Carolina Panthers finally got reps into Jaycee Horn

It’s been a slow burn for cornerback Jaycee Horn throughout camp. The former No. 8 overall selection experienced soreness in his surgically repaired broken foot after the opening conditioning test, which left the Carolina Panthers taking things extremely cautiously to avoid further complications.

Horn has been in and out of drills throughout Carolina’s time at Wofford College. Although the South Carolina product is eager to ramp up football activities, risking further harm in camp was only going to have a detrimental impact on his and the team’s chances of making a bigger splash next season.

Despite many veterans and top-end depth chart pieces missing practice, the coaching staff took this opportunity to integrate Horn by giving the player much-needed reps. This came primarily in the slot according to those in attendance, with the Panthers social media team capturing a glimpse of his exceptional ball skills to further whet the appetite.

Whether Horn will be risked in the preseason is anyone’s guess. It does appear unlikely, but it’s also worth remembering how much football he’s missed since suffering a season-ending injury in Week 3 at the Houston Texans.

Carolina need Horn fit and firing on all cylinders next season. But it might take some time for the second-year-pro to get his legs back in a competitive environment.
