4 burning questions for Carolina Panthers offense after 2022 camp
By Noah Bryce
How will the Carolina Panthers handle left-side OL?
The fact that the Carolina Panthers still don’t have a solidified offensive line on the left side, even after all the offseason acquisitions and a top-10 pick invested there, is concerning. But should we expect anything less from this organization at this point?
After the dumpster fire that was the utilization of Brady Christensen last season, there is little that can surprise. However, it seems that the Panthers have at least learned from that and handed over the reins at left tackle to the second-year player after an impressive end to the season.
Ikem Ekwonu, the team’s No. 6 overall selection, is seen as the franchise blindside protector long-term. Even if the Panthers are making him earn a starting job throughout the offseason period.
How Christensen holds up with this newfound responsibility will be something to monitor. If the BYU product shows out in the preseason, there could be a controversy brewing with Ekwonu.
But even with that said, a depth chart that doesn’t have a chosen starter at center, even after Pat Elflein struggled there last season, and Michael Jordan at left guard is not really that big of an improvement.
The best case scenario for this team was always Ekwonu having a strong offseason and taking over at left tackle with Christensen sliding onto the interior. Something we saw a lot more of during the final few practices in camp.
But with Jordan and possibly even Elflein also generating momentum, there could be serious issues once again.
This is something to watch very closely. If the team once again struggles in this area, neither quarterback will be given a fair shake in the competition that still remains undecided.
