Carolina Panthers trade offer No. 3

Of all the potential trades the Carolina Panthers could offer, this feels the most straightforward and beneficial to both sides. Giving up a wide receiver who underachieved in 2021 and next year’s second-rounder in exchange for a star linebacker.

The Chicago Bears, if forced to move on from Roquan Smith, aren’t likely to do much better than this. It also provides Justin Fields with another speedy and reliable target in Robbie Anderson while also accumulating some additional draft capital to strengthen problem areas via the draft.

Anderson had a great first season with the Panthers before struggling last time around with Sam Darnold, P.J. Walker, and Cam Newton all taking snaps at quarterback. His disappointing campaign could be related to the issues at quarterback as easily as they could be pointed to his own potential regression.

Smith would thrive in the Panthers’ defense, helping to carry the team into wildcard relevance with an abundance of talent around him. While Anderson would help Fields take a step forward in Chicago and give the second-year-pro more firepower to utilize next season.

While a trade for Smith remains unlikely for Carolina, it is a situation they should continue to monitor. The former Georgia standout has all the talent in the world and would be following in the footsteps of exceptional Panthers linebackers throughout history if this trade became a reality.
