Carolina Panthers could move Robbie Anderson

A lot was made of Robbie Anderson‘s offseason comments about not wanting Baker Mayfield to land with the Carolina Panthers. These were walked back as support for Sam Darnold when the Heisman Trophy winner’s trade was confirmed.

Anderson’s comments could be taken as he explained them considering he spent a large part of his career with Sam Darnold at quarterback. However, the Panthers might entertain trading the Temple product following a down year in 2021 if they receive a big offer.

Taking a step back can be attributed to the quarterback play. However, the Panthers have D.J. Moore and Christian McCaffrey as their primary weapons, coupled with some exciting young talent capable of making significant leaps with Mayfield under center.

Trading Anderson to a better fit and allowing Terrace Marshall Jr. the chance to step up in his second year would be a gamble. But one the Panthers might consider despite the veteran looking like his old self at times in camp.

Anderson had one good season with the Panthers. But the team has solid options at the position.

They also need to find out exactly what they have in Marshall and Shi Smith this season. This would be a bombshell in no uncertain terms, especially considering the wideout’s upcoming salary in 2023, which stands at $21.71 million against Carolina’s cap.
