Which Carolina Panthers players can book their places on the 53-man roster at the New England Patriots in preseason Week 2?

Excitement is building as the Carolina Panthers get set for their second preseason outing of the offseason at the New England Patriots. It was a bruising and testing spell for more established roster members during joint practices this week, which could mean those lower down the depth chart get another prominent chance to shine.

There is another round of cuts upcoming next week, which is the last before the all-important trim to 53 men after preseason Week 3. The Panthers probably have a good idea of who’ll make it or who won’t, with many also candidates for the practice squad if another team doesn’t bring them on board.

For some, the margins between positions and uncertain futures is slim. So their performances at Gilette Stadium will be monitored closely by those in positions of power.

With this in mind, here are three Panthers players that could earn themselves a roster spot with strong performances at the Patriots.

Austen Pleasants – Carolina Panthers OT

It was an enormously encouraging performance from Austen Pleasants in preseason Week 1. The offensive tackle got some nice push on running downs and also caught the eye in pass protection to further enhance his influence.

The Carolina Panthers are looking for a solid option behind Taylor Moton at the right tackle spot. Another strong outing from Pleasants at Gillette Stadium could see him preferred to someone like Cam Erving when it’s all said and done.

What comes next is down to Pleasants. He’s given himself a fighting chance, so there could be enough momentum to take him through onto the roster with additional confidence.
