5 key observations from Panthers second preseason game at Patriots

Carolina Panthers CB Tae Hayes catches the eye again
Considering how late Tae Hayes joined the Carolina Panthers and the fact he was nothing more than a camp body to provide cover, it’s been remarkable to see such an impressive transition from the cornerback. Something that was evident once again during their second preseason game against the New England Patriots.
Hayes did give up a couple of completions, which isn’t out of the ordinary. But he made sure his name hit the headlines with an impressive pick-six – which turned out to be Carolina’s only touchdown of the evening.
This was another positive step from Hayes. Whether it’s enough for the former Appalachian State standout to force his way into a crowded cornerback room on the 53-man roster is another matter.
Hayes was always a long shot to make it. However, the player has done his chances an endless amount of good and the Panthers need to have a serious discussion about his status when the time comes.
Carolina might bring Hayes forward onto the practice squad if they decide other defensive backs can offer more. But this move to the Panthers has reignited the player’s career whichever way it goes.
