3 reasons Baker Mayfield was the only choice for Carolina Panthers

Baker Mayfield provides the Carolina Panthers with purpose
As stated previously, Sam Darnold gave it his all this offseason and enjoyed a solid camp. The eventual outcome didn’t go his way, but the USC product should also be commended for his sterling attitude in the face of adversity.
However, there was just something different when Baker Mayfield was under center.
More energy.
More conviction.
More purpose.
It wasn’t perfect at times. But the Carolina Panthers knew this was always going to be a work in progress where Mayfield was concerned after waiting for a good deal regarding a player deemed surplus to requirements on the Cleveland Browns.
Mayfield’s 2020 production would be a significant upgrade on anything Carolina’s had since Matt Rhule took charge. And there did appear to be far more belief from everyone when it was the Heisman Trophy winner’s time to get reps.
If Mayfield can develop further chemistry by getting the bulk of first-team snaps before the regular season, then confidence will only grow. It’s also worth remembering he’s already won around the likes of Robbie Anderson, who made no secret of his thoughts about the trade before it was rubber-stamped.
