Brandon Zylstra – Carolina Panthers WR

Getting noticed in the wide receiver room is a difficult ask for even the most experienced performer these days. The Carolina Panthers have seen Shi Smith come to the fore and Rashard Higgins has also made plays, but Brandon Zylstra is another that heads into the final preseason game with momentum providing he can recover from a slight knock that’s kept him out of practice this week.

Zylstra emerged as a rare dependable option for the Panthers in the passing game last season despite minimal involvement. However, there is an added sense of urgency within the group this time around, so being a core special teams player might not be enough when it’s all said and done.

The former CFL standout has come up with some memorable highlights throughout camp. Something that only highlighted what Zylstra might be capable of with additional involvement next season.

The Panthers like guys lower down the depth chart to become factors on special teams. This is an area where Zylstra thrives and could be the deciding factor regarding his place on the 53.

Much will depend on how many wide receivers the Panthers take through, obviously. One could now make a strong case for Smith and Higgins being ahead of Zylstra, who’s now the sixth or seventh best option from the outside looking in.
