Baker Mayfield has confidence in the Carolina Panthers
A rollercoaster offseason period for Baker Mayfield is now over. The quarterback’s been humbled after he was cast aside by the Cleveland Browns, but everything worked out in the end and he is supremely confident in the Carolina Panthers heading into the 2022 campaign.
Mayfield’s transition to the Panthers has gone better than anticipated. It was a crash course in picking up Ben McAdoo’s complex system and developing chemistry with teammates, but it’s a responsibility he’s handled in an accomplished fashion despite the challenging circumstances.
The signal-caller spoke about the welcome he’s received since arriving in Carolina. Even though some of his best weapons weren’t risked for Carolina’s preseason finale, Mayfield has a real belief that this team can perform far better than most in the national media are suggesting in 2022.
"“I feel great about this team. I feel great about the guys up front and the weapons we have at the skill positions, and we haven’t been out there as a complete unit yet. … I’m 100 percent confident in this group that we have going forward,” Mayfield said. “Obviously, right now is not the fun part of football, when you have to make the cuts, but (I’ve) been just feeling really, really grateful for this group that we’ve had that welcomed me in here.”"
Mayfield’s performance against the Buffalo Bills only whets the appetite further. But it will be a completely different ball game the next time he lines up at Bank of America Stadium when Myles Garrett and company come to town.
