Carolina Panthers final 53-man roster prediction after 2022 preseason
Carolina Panthers quarterbacks
- Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold.
Baker Mayfield was recently named the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers. A role the signal-caller was destined for since the day he warrived.
Mayfield is the best option at quarterback for the Panthers in the Matt Rhule, David Tepper era. How the former Oklahoma stud plays will be instrumental in how well Carolina’s season goes.
Sam Darnold will serve as the backup to Mayfield for the foreseeable future, although much will depend on the extent of the ankle injury suffered by the No. 3 overall selection in 2018 suffered against the Buffalo Bills.
Darnold had a forgettable 2021 season. Although he had a decent training camp, Mayfield brings too much to the table and was the better option throughout the off-season period.
Rookie third-rounder Matt Corral is on season-ending injured/reserve after the Ole Miss product suffered a significant foot injury against the New England Patriots in Week 2 of the preseason. A bitter blow from the player, but this was likely to be a redshirt year in any case.
In this prediction, P.J. Walker does not make the 53-man roster and could potentially land with another team once he’s released. But if Darnold is forced to miss a prolonged period, expect to see the one-time XFL MVP candidate make it.
