Chuba Hubbard – Carolina Panthers RB
This would be the most shocking of all by a considerable margin. But there is a growing sense outside of the Carolina Panthers that Chuba Hubbard might be on the chopping block sooner rather than later.
The former fourth-round selection performed well in difficult circumstances last season. Filling in for an elite talent such as Christian McCaffrey wasn’t the easiest proposition, even if there were some concerns about Hubbard’s contact balance and lack of efficiency in the passing game.
Hubbard has extra competition for his primary backup spot this season in D’Onta Foreman. Three costly drops against the Buffalo Bills also indicate the same problems could resurface if targets come his way during the regular season.
The Oklahoma State product was outshone in Carolina’s preseason finale by John Lovett. Spencer Brown is another that caught the eye before going down with an unfortunate injury that might scupper his roster chances.
This would be a monumental call for the Panthers to make. Especially considering Hubbard is only entering his second season with the team.
In reality, he’ll get a reprieve. But the leash surrounding Hubbard’s production could be extremely short in 2022.
