Carolina Panthers could be the perfect place for Denzel Mims

The question of Terrace Marshall Jr.’s health is frustrating as the Carolina Panthers viewed him as their big-body receiver that could make those highly contested catches. Denzel Mims is on a similar career path after struggling with the New York Jets as a second-round selection in 2020.

Mims needs a new fresh start. What better way to reignite his career than to reunite with the former coach whom he trusts and succeeded with at Baylor?

Under Matt Rhule with the Bears, Mims had two seasons of more than 1,000 receiving yards, showing that he belongs with the best college football had to offer at the time, which the Jets thought could make a smooth transition to the next level.

The general manager duo of Scott Fitterer and Joe Douglas worked together last year on the Sam Darnold trade. This familiarity between the two makes the case even stronger for Mims ending up in Carolina.

What sells the trade to the Panthers would likely be Mims’ connection with Rhule. The Panthers are not sold on Marshall, so this could become a like-for-like replacement even if it does represent a gamble.

Mims getting an opportunity elsewhere and Ben McAdoo orchestrating the offense could take the player to the next level. This could also see his production skyrocket as he will see favored matchups with D.J Moore and Robbie Anderson on the field with him.

The Jets went out and drafted Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore over the last two years. Signing  Corey Davis in 2021 free agency also showed their lack of confidence in Mims moving forward.
