Carolina Panthers could claim O.J. Howard

The Carolina Panthers have confidence in Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble fulfilling their potential under the guidance of offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. Whether the tight end duo can produce the numbers needed is the big question that’ll come with huge ramifications for the offense overall.

Although it appears unlikely that another option comes into the fold before Thomas and Tremble get the chance to prove themselves, O.J. Howard’s presence on the waiver wire is notable after the veteran was waived by the Buffalo Bills.

Howard has all the physical tools needed to become a dominant pass-catcher at the position. Something he’s flashed throughout his career, but injuries have dented progression in the worst possible way.

The former No. 19 overall selection was active 17 times for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season – starting nine games. However, this came with just 21 targets as Rob Gronkowski took center stage once again.

Buffalo gave Howard more than $3 million guaranteed to bring him on board this offseason. But they decided to move forward with Dawson Knox as their starter to leave his future in doubt.

Teams will always bet on the physical traits Howard brings to the table. So he’s unlikely to be short of offers even if the player does clear waivers.
