Carolina Panthers could claim Jarrad Davis
Things haven’t been a bed of roses for Jarrad Davis since he was taken as a first-round pick back in 2017. A superb first two seasons with the Detroit Lions haven’t been backed up and the player was even moved on to the New York Jets in 2021 before being brought back by head coach Dan Campbell this offseason.
Davis worked hard and made some decent plays in the preseason. But the Lions had others ready to step up and assume larger responsibilities on the rotation such as rookie sensation Malcolm Rodriguez, who became one of the team’s stars on HBO’s Hard Knocks.
It didn’t take long for the Lions to cut ties with Davis when the time came for final cuts. Something that could interest the Carolina Panthers at a position that’s been sorely lacking consistency since Luke Kuechly retired to preserve his long-term health.
The former Florida stud is a ferocious hitter that sees the field well. Davis can also generate pressure from the interior, even if his six-sack campaign as a sophomore was some time ago now.
Davis will turn 28 years old soon, so he should be entering his prime. However, it’s hard not to be concerned by his current career trajectory, which could put the Panthers and others off when push comes to shove.
