Carolina Panthers let Kenny Robinson go after Patriots ejections

After a 2021 season full of promise, hopes were high that Kenny Robinson could make big-time strides entering his third season with the Carolina Panthers. The safety made some impressive plays on the defensive rotation and special teams, which was a step in the right direction for a player that was cut before coming back onto the practice squad.

Robinson caught the eye on occasions in camp. Starting alongside Jeremy Chinn was out of the question after the signing of Xavier Woods from the Minnesota Vikings in free agency, but a prominent depth chart spot was well within reach for the second straight year.

Then, things turned sour.

It was a heated two days of joint practices with the New England Patriots. Robinson was at the heart of it, getting himself ejected on both days and leaving the Panthers examining the film before deciding on further action.

While this sort of fight is good if harnessed in the right way, it’s clear that the incidents didn’t do Robinson’s roster chances any good. And in a game of fine margins, it might have been the deciding factor during discussions.

This is not the way many envisaged Robinson’s offseason going. But the player at least has some legitimate NFL production for other teams to examine before putting in a potential waiver claim.
