5 major observations from Carolina Panthers final roster cuts in 2022

Carolina Panthers keep faith with Terrace Marshall Jr.
It’s been a fortnight of intense speculation surrounding the future of Terrace Marshall Jr. The Carolina Panthers were growing increasingly frustrated with the wide receiver’s inability to put a consistent run of practices together and the former second-round pick used sparingly in their final preseason outing to cast further doubt on his aspirations.
Joe Person of The Athletic even touted Marshall as a surprise final roster cut in his projection. Not exactly what the Panthers had in mind when they selected the LSU product at No. 59 overall.
As it turned out, Marshall made the team. And in all honesty, giving up on someone with such an impressive skill set this early would have been foolish.
With that being said, Marshall still has a significant amount of work ahead in pursuit of making his presence felt in 2022. The wide receiver room is deep and full of playmakers, so generating targets will be a tough challenge for anyone outside of perhaps D.J. Moore and Robbie Anderson.
Marshall has the athletic attributes to be a difference-maker in multiple alignments. His size could also make him a big-time threat in the red zone, which would help new quarterback Baker Mayfield enormously.
The Panthers saw something in Marshall. But they were wise to strengthen their receiving options in case injuries strike or the player cannot meet expectations.
