Panthers 7-round NFL mock draft ahead of 2022 college football season

Carolina Panthers select Jaheim Bell
- Tight End | South Carolina
The Carolina Panthers could need a better plan at the tight end position in 2023. Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble once again carry the mantle regarding production in this key area, which has been sorely lacking since Greg Olsen left in 2020 free agency for the Seattle Seahawks.
There is hope both Thomas and Tremble can make bigger impressions under the guidance of offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. If they don’t, then the Panthers need to find a dynamic individual from the college ranks to give this offense another shot in the arm.
As luck would have it, there might be someone close to home.
Jaheim Bell ticks all the boxes. His physical traits are unbelievable and there is plenty of room for growth after gaining 30 receptions for 497 receiving yards and five touchdowns last season for South Carolina.
Bell is a mismatch nightmare in the slot and the red zone. His route-running came on leaps and bounds in 2021, which is matched by outstanding ball skills and supreme ability to catch under pressure.
An overlooked positive to Bell’s game is blocking. He is willing to get his hands dirty on the edge and plays with a fiery streak that’s hard not to love.
This would solve an ongoing complication for the Panthers. One that could become a weak link on offense for a third-straight season if Thomas and Tremble cannot improve.
