Carolina Panthers head coach

Perhaps the most crucial question that the Carolina Panthers have is whether or not Matt Rhule can make the necessary improvements to his own approach. The head coach has endured a difficult first two seasons in the role, accumulating 10 wins and leaving many wondering whether team owner David Tepper was right to hand the former Baylor man such a lucrative contract to tempt him from the college level.

It was always going to take time. A luxury rarely afford to head coaches in the NFL.

The Panthers demonstrated a distinct lack of progression last season. Suspect production at the quarterback position and across the offensive line made things difficult, but Rhule was also criticized for failing to come up with the necessary adjustments in games to put Carolina in the best possible position to thrive.

Rhule got a reprieve from Tepper this offseason. That might not be the case next time around unless significant improvements come from the coach and the team overall.

In fairness to Rhule, the roster is coming along nicely. He also looks refreshed and is clearly benefitting from a revamped coaching staff with proven NFL credentials.

Now is the time for Rhule to prove his own worth. Carolina gave him everything he needed this offseason, so failure is simply not an option.
