Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey secures 2,000 all-purpose yards
It’s been a frustrating recent spell with injuries for Christian McCaffrey. The running back remains an elite weapon when on the field, but turning out just 10 times in two years is something that’s had serious ramifications on the Carolina Panthers and their hopes of being competitive.
McCaffrey looks like his old self this offseason, even though the Panthers rightfully chose not to risk him in preseason games. The explosiveness is right where it needs to be and a standout showing during joint practices with the New England Patriots whet the appetite further regarding his return to competitive action.
Altering how McCaffrey is utilized might be the smart option. But for the Panthers to thrive next season, the former first-round pick must remain the focal point.
It’s easy to forget that McCaffrey became only the third running back in NFL history to attain 1,000 yards rushing and receiving once upon a time. With an extra game on the schedule these days, the Stanford product can legitimately aim for 2,000 all-purpose yards once again.
While he has the talent, there are still major doubts about the player’s ability to put a consistent run of games together. If he can stay on the field, then McCaffrey’s numbers will be Pro Bowl-caliber and perhaps even better than that.
