D’Onta Foreman – Carolina Panthers RB
Christian McCaffrey is back and should be the focal point on offense once again. But if the Carolina Panthers had any sense, how the running back is utilized should be altered considering he’s turned out just 10 times over the last two seasons.
This is something the coaching staff will consider. Although it would be a surprise if McCaffrey didn’t shoulder a heavy load considering the weather forecast and the Panthers’ clear need to get their campaign off on a positive note.
D’Onta Foreman could also play a key role. The Panthers signed the former Texas star in free agency after an eye-catching contribution for the Tennessee Titans in 2021, where he kept the wheels turning until Derrick Henry returned in time for the postseason.
Foreman should be McCaffrey’s primary backup. However, it would be wise for Carolina to deploy him in short-yardage situations and the red zone given his physical running style.
Pass protection is another area where Foreman could assist when required. The Cleveland Browns boast Pro Bowl-caliber talent across their front seven, so any help Carolina can get from lower down the pecking order, the better their chances will be.
Having McCaffrey back is a major boost. But the Panthers need much more than the All-Pro firing on all cylinders to achieve success in Week 1.
