Carolina Panthers have work to do with Baker Mayfield

Since making a trade for Baker Mayfield we heard a lot regarding what quarterback we might see throughout the 2022 season.

The good, or the bad?

On Sunday, it was both.

Through the first half, Mayfield found little to no consistency, ending the first half with just 101 yards passing, one interception, and a measly passer rating of 46.2, However, as offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo made adjustments to counteract the Cleveland Browns’ defense, we saw the reason why he was taken No. 1 overall in 2018.

Mayfield led the Carolina Panthers on three scoring drives, racking up 17 points to lead with just over a minute remaining.

We saw Mayfield improve massively after he threw a pick to Grant Delpit. On his final 5 drives, Mayfield went 9-for-12 for 211 yards with one score through the air and one on the ground. He also had a perfect 158.3 passer rating in the fourth quarter.

One could argue that the early inconsistency was a mixture of rustiness and bad play calling. Once adjustments were made in the second half we saw Mayfield improve massively

The Oklahoma product showed glimpses that he can be a franchise guy. However, he needs to bring that fourth-quarter performance into a full game starting in Week 2.
