Carolina Panthers should start Bradley Bozeman in Week 2

Matt Rhule naming Pat Elflein as the Week1 starter at the center position was gravely concerning based on his previous production. While it was no surprise given Bradley Bozeman’s injury in the preseason, things went as bad as many anticipated.

As the game played out it was clear to see Elflein is not the right option long-term. No fewer than five fumbled snaps between Elflein and quarterback Baker Mayfield occurred throughout the contest, with the former Ohio State man at fault for at least three.

Elflein might be a serviceable center and competent backup. But starting him moving forward is not viable and when you have a player like Bozeman waiting in the wings.

Play your best players.

It’s not that difficult.

Since coming into the league, Bozeman has put out some exceptional tape at both left guard and center. The same cannot be said of Elflein.

Much will depend on Bozeman’s fitness – even though Rhule stated that he was ready to go if needed. However, moving forward the Carolina Panthers coaching staff must integrate the free-agent signing into the starting unit in pursuit of bouncing back.
