Baker Mayfield – Carolina Panthers QB

Following an offseason trade to the Carolina Panthers, expectations were high that Baker Mayfield was the man to ignite this offense to better fortunes in 2022. Something that was enhanced by a strong preparation period that comfortably saw him win the starting job from Sam Darnold.

After working out some kinks in the first half against the Cleveland Browns, Mayfield settled down with a respectable second half and phenomenal fourth quarter. This almost led the Panthers to an improbable win against all odds until Cade York bombed a field goal from long range.

The Oklahoma product finished with 16-for-27 pass completions for 235 yards, one touchdown, and one interception during the ballgame. He also added on five carries for six yards and a rushing score.

Start or Sit in Week 2?

SIT.

The New York Giants defense is not impressive. But in all honesty, the Panthers’ offensive line needs to get on the same page and quickly.

There is a high chance we will see more runs by Christian McCaffrey, who was used sparingly in the season opener that simply cannot happen again. With four errors between Mayfield and center Pat Elflein in Week 1 – who is starting once again this weekend – it is best to let the signal-caller get his footing before putting him in your starting fantasy football lineup.
