Panthers 7-round 2023 mock draft: Addressing needs and taking risks
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers select Jaylon Robinson
- Wide Receiver | Ole Miss
The Carolina Panthers have plenty of talent within their wide receiver room. But depending on what transpires next offseason, they might need another talent from the college ranks to boost their depth chart.
Robbie Anderson is a prime cut candidate with his $21.71 million salary-cap hit in 2023. Terrace Marshall Jr.’s future is also up in the air and free-agent signing Rashard Higgins is out of contract.
If Shi Smith doesn’t show enough from a prominent role and Laviska Shenault Jr. cannot adjust to a different environment following his trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina’s going to have a problem.
It might not be a top need compared to other areas, but someone like Jaylon Robinson could be worth a late-round flier in this scenario. The pocket rocket might only be 5-foot-9, but his elusiveness and ability to conjure up magic after the catch could develop into something more over time.
Robinson’s had a colorful college career that began at Oklahoma and now sees him at Ole Miss via two tremendous seasons at Central Florida. His size will restrict him to the slot, but there is a lot to like about the prospect’s explosiveness and ball skills.
