4 glaring factors behind another dismal Panthers loss at the Giants
By Nick Halden
Carolina Panthers’ gamble hasn’t paid off
David Tepper watched Matt Rhule go all in on Sam Darnold and make a desperation move for Cam Newton in 2021. Despite this, the team owner concluded that bringing back the USC product and the head coach was the right call to make.
While general manager Scott Fitterer might be making the calls, Tepper is involved in the decision-making. Every time Rhule loses, the billionaire gets another bunch of fingers pointed in his direction after a turbulent offseason away from the gridiron.
For someone so desperate to bring back relevant football to Charlotte, Tepper’s decision-making has an odd way of showing it. While Baker Mayfield may not be a franchise quarterback, he is better than what he has shown during the first two weeks of the season.
Just as Darnold and Newton were better before they joined Rhule.
Were any of the three franchise saviors?
Of course not. But each was far more capable under different coaches and Tepper deserves his share of the blame for his overall running of team operations.
Keeping Rhule was a questionable decision. Just what the tipping point is this time around is anyone’s guess.
