What were the biggest disappointments to emerge from the Carolina Panthers’ victory against the New Orleans Saints in Week 3?
The Carolina Panthers got a win at home defeating the New Orleans Saints 22-14. This was a very refreshing feeling after so much recent misery and will hopefully give the players confidence going forward.
Everyone counted the Panthers out in this game. They took that personally and put on a defensive clinic in front of the home crowd at Bank of America Stadium.
Phil Snow has regained some good graces after a lackluster outing in Week 1. His consistent game-planning on shutting down the opposing team’s best player is evident each week and something that provides some comfort for head coach Matt Rhule as his offense continues to go through some severe complications.
However, it wasn’t all a bed of roses for Carolina. With this in mind, here are four huge disappointments from their game against the New Orleans Saints in Week 3.
Disappointment No. 1
Carolina Panthers QB Baker Mayfield struggled
Baker Mayfield has had a rough start with his new team and it was another disappointing performance on Sunday. The quarterback has just 550 passing yards and three touchdowns over the first three games, remaining hesitant in the pocket and creating pressure on countless occasions.
Mayfield is still learning a new system. But his 19.5 QBR ranks No. 32 across the league and is unacceptable with the number of weapons he has on the field.
The former Oklahoma sensation has to figure things out quickly as the defense can only play at an elite level for so long. Mayfield must get the ball into his playmaker’s hands, which is the best way to turnaround an indifferent start to life with the Carolina Panthers.
