Carolina Panthers’ situation remains perilous

One win is great and it was much-needed.

However, the fact remains that the Carolina Panthers are still in a perilous position.

Until Matt Rhule proves capable of stringing a solid run of positive results together, there will always be doubts. His big talk hasn’t been backed up with anything more than 11 victories in 37 games since replacing Ron Rivera and the former Baylor man has always indicated he wants to be judged in Year 3.

It didn’t start well. The Panthers had a real opportunity to get their season off to a flier against the Cleveland Browns and failed, with their performance at the New York Giants another major disappointment when the contest was there for the taking.

Beating the New Orleans Saints was fantastic and came at just the right time. Another thing working in Rhule’s favor is everyone within the locker room seems to be on board and team owner David Tepper is willing to ride his experiment out for good or bad.

As defensive end Brian Burns stated in his post-game locker room speech, the job is far from finished. It’s just getting started and if the Panthers collectively keep the same mindset, it should stand them in good stead.
