Carolina Panthers must be efficient on offense

It’s no secret that the Carolina Panthers biggest weakness so far in 2022 is the ability to pass the football. Baker Mayfield hasn’t played his best through first three games and he’s been on record saying that.

Not all of the blame for the struggles in the passing game belong to Mayfield. Ben McAdoo needs to put him in better situations for him to be more successful.

Christian McCaffrey is the offense’s biggest threat to defenses and thrives in the passing game, but he hasn’t had many opportunities to showcase his skill set in the open field. McAdoo needs to incorporate more routes in the open field for the All-Pro, which will allow him to receive the ball in space for potentially bigger gains.

Carolina’s offensive coordinator also needs involve D.J. Moore frequently. Three touches in Week 3 is unacceptable, even though Mayfield missed the former first-round pick badly on three separate occasions.

Call a screen, drag or even a hitch for Moore and let him go to work. Give him more action out of the backfield if that’s what it takes.

Mayfield has to be more accurate and should be moving forward. It would also help his success and confidence if McAdoo can make it easier on him in the coming weeks.
