Carolina Panthers select Jahleel Billingsley

  • Tight End | Texas

Ian Thomas has flashed promise over the opening three contests. But the offense’s struggles overall mean opportunities to shine have been few and far between.

Until Baker Mayfield solves some chemistry and trust issues within the scheme, nobody is going to benefit. Something we’ve seen plenty since his trade to the Carolina Panthers just a few short days before training camp.

Tommy Tremble is another anonymous presence at the tight end position. This could lead the front office in a different direction this offseason and although Jahleel Billingsley has some newfound red flags, the talent is undeniable.

Billingsley hasn’t turned out for Texas as yet due to a six-game suspension stemming from his time at Alabama. Simply put, this couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Many were expecting the prospect to take college football by storm in 2022. But he has yet to play a competitive snap and these character concerns saw him go tumbling down draft big boards up and down the country as a result.

The Panthers have been known to take risks with these individuals lower down the pecking order. Questions surrounded the likes of Shi Smith and Daviyon Nixon in 2021 which didn’t put Carolina off, so they might do the same again with Billingsley.
