Panthers 7-round 2023 mock draft: What would Carolina do from No. 7?
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers select Jacob Cowing
- Wide Receiver | Arizona
The future of Terrace Marshall Jr. is in significant doubt following his healthy scratch against the New Orleans Saints. Robbie Anderson’s time with the Carolina Panthers could come to an end in 2023 given he’s set to count an astronomical $21.71 million against the salary cap on the final year of his deal.
Outside of D.J. Moore, there is nobody consistent. However, this might change as the season goes on if Baker Mayfield becomes more efficient with his distribution.
Acquiring a wide receiver could be a bigger priority than this. But the Panthers aren’t blessed with much in the way of draft capital and other pressing problems arguably take priority within key positional groups.
This might lead to the front office gambling on a later-round prospect and hoping for the best. Jacob Cowing fits into this category and after an exceptional season at UTEP in 2021, the wideout is building on this positive momentum in Arizona during his final college campaign.
Cowing recorded 1,354 receiving yards and seven touchdowns from 69 receptions last season. Thankfully for the prospect, transferring hasn’t impacted his growth, with 28 catches, 386 receiving yards, and six scores to his name already in 2022.
