4 key observations from Christian McCaffrey’s performance vs. Cardinals
Carolina Panthers are failing Christian McCaffrey
When it comes down to it, the Carolina Panthers are failing Christian McCaffrey. The running back’s prime years are being wasted by an inept regime incapable of making the strides needed to make this team competitive – which is the most frustrating thing of all.
McCaffrey’s contribution is the one positive on offense outside of a much improved offensive line. But one man cannot do it all and unless things get solved elsewhere, the player is going to suffer as a result.
This is not the first time such an occurrence has taken place under Matt Rhule‘s leadership. The former Baylor man cannot find a happy medium and with so much change to key coaches and personnel, he is now the one common denominator with excuses rapidly running out.
The proverbial s going to hit the fan at some stage. This increased urgency could lead the Panthers to lean on McCaffrey more than ever to get them out of a pretty substantial hole, but riding the player into the ground in pursuit of saving jobs is not the best course of action.
Becoming efficient, balanced, and executing productively is the only way Carolina is going to thrive. The onus is also on offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo to adjust his scheme and make things less obvious schematically because whatever this offense is, it’s just not working.
Rhule and McAdoo owe McCaffrey an apology. What comes next will ultimately determine whether or not both will still be employed in 2023.
