Carolina Panthers should monitor C.J. Stroud

There are two quarterback prospects in 2023 standing out from the rest so far. We’ve already spoken about Bryce Young and his outstanding potential, but C.J. Stroud could be the best of the bunch and is another strong contender to be the first signal-caller taken next spring.

The Carolina Panthers would likely need a top-two or three selection to secure Stroud. Something they are currently on course for after a 1-3 start during what’s arguably their most winnable stretch of games in 2022.

Stroud has brought his game on leaps and bounds with every passing year. He’s taken on the mantle left by Justin Fields at Ohio State superbly, with many projecting him to be even better than the current Chicago Bears quarterback upon arriving in the pros.

There isn’t much Stroud cannot do under center. He is efficient in his reads, provides accuracy at all three levels, and can make plays out of nothing to further enhance his stock.

Whether the stigma surrounding Buckeyes’ quarterbacks and their ability to transition successfully to the NFL ends up weighing on Stroud remains to be seen. But much like the situation with Young, this temptation might be too much for the Panthers to ignore and especially if Matt Rhule is replaced before it’s time to begin their all important pre-draft assessments.
