What severe threats must the Carolina Panthers worry about when they welcome the San Francisco 49ers to Bank of America Stadium in Week 5?

The Carolina Panthers are heading down the rabbit hole very quickly sitting at 1-3. Next up is a home clash against the San Francisco 49ers and their No. 1 defense.

Their front seven is extremely dangerous with All-Pro Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead presenting problems. Carolina’s offensive line has fared well through four games, but this is the best pass rush they’ve played so far.

With the offense showing no signs of life, this is a recipe for disaster versus a unit led by defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, a highly intelligent coach that shows multiple looks and lets his front four go to work.

Ryans is an up-and-coming defensive mind that should field head coaching opportunities when the season is over. His defense finished top-five in DVOA with an injury-rattled secondary last year, defeating Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in a memorable playoff triumph at Lambeau Field.

Baker Mayfield has been a complete disaster so far for the Panthers. If the quarterback can’t fix things by Sunday along with Ben McAdoo’s stale, uninspiring offense, don’t expect many points.

With that being said here are three severe threats the Panthers must worry about against the Niners in Week 5.
