3 huge changes the Panthers coaching staff must make vs. 49ers in Week 5
By Preston Seyl
What huge changes must the Carolina Panthers coaching staff make ahead of their Week 5 clash against the San Francisco 49ers?
The Carolina Panthers are heading into treacherous waters on offense against the best defense in the NFL in Week 5. With one of the most dominant front sevens in football, the San Francisco 49ers will look to pile further misery on Baker Mayfield and an offense that’s been a significant disappointment in 2022 so far.
The Panthers’ curtains are closing regarding their hopes at a wild card spot. But in all honesty, even if they do manage to pull off a victory at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday, making the playoffs already looks to be a stretch too far in Year 3 of Matt Rhule’s tenure.
Carolina’s offense looks to be going in the wrong direction. The wide receivers aren’t creating separation on man coverage, and the inaccuracy from Mayfield exposes the passing game. Tipped passes have become a common occurrence, with more and more resulting in turnovers that are costing the Panthers in a big way.
It is a copycat league, so this will only get worse if something doesn’t change. Ben McAdoo and Rhule have failed to put together a modern scheme, stuck In their ways with what they want to do no matter the outcome.
With that being said, here are three changes the coaching staff must consider against the Niners and their top-ranked defense in Week 5.
