Another difficult afternoon for Baker Mayfield

After gaining just 95 passing yards in the first half, Baker Mayfield responded slightly after the interval. Even if it was too little, too late.

Mayfield took advantage of the San Francisco 49ers adopting a moderately conservative approach on defense late on to pad his stats. This resulted in a 55.56 percent completion success for 215 passing yards, no touchdowns, one interception, a QBR of 25.3, and a passer rating of 61.7.

The signal-caller was sacked four times throughout and those who did bother turning out once again made their feeling known from the stands. This trade is proving to be a massive failure for Mayfield and the Carolina Panthers, which is clearly getting to the No. 1 overall selection in 2018 based on his post-game comments.

"“A lot of frustration. The more you think about it, angry because we haven’t played to our capability, to be honest with you. That’s the frustrating part. Have to translate it to Sundays, and win on Sundays. We work all week to come out on Sundays, and we’ve got to make the plays that are there.”"

Excuses are not going to cut it anymore for anybody within the Panthers. Whether landmark changes take place in the coming days or not is a moot point – the onus remains on Mayfield and others to start taking some pride in their own performance levels and turn this sorry situation around.
