Carolina Panthers have a solid nucleus

When one looks at the Carolina Panthers roster from top to bottom, it’s abundantly clear they are underachieving. There is a good nucleus of young players to build around, which could mean those in power opt to retool rather than rebuild in the coming months.

Much will depend on how this group fares throughout their remaining games. But the spine on both sides of the football seems like it could progress providing some much-needed stability arrives at quarterback.

Whether that means someone like Cam Newton comes back is anyone’s guess. It wouldn’t hurt, but whether the former NFL MVP wants to walk into this firepit for a third time is the big question.

However unlikely that might be, the point stands. If the Panthers get themselves a new signal-caller capable of bringing the best out of a talented bunch and the defense continues progressing, then it’s hard to envisage a scenario where things don’t start trending upwards after years of languishing in mediocrity or worse.

Rebuilding represents waving the white flag on this group of players. While some will obviously fall victim to cuts or trades, the spine is there for Carolina to emerge as a force over time.
