5 players the Panthers should consider trading post-Matt Rhule
By Dean Jones
Robbie Anderson – Carolina Panthers WR
Now that Matt Rhule is no longer around, the noose will tighten on those former college players he brought to the Carolina Panthers. This was a method of recruitment that brought little in the way of success, which is something that’s gradually diminished over time and looks set to be non-existent next year.
One player that could be a potential trade candidate is Robbie Anderson. The wide receiver just hasn’t hit the heights seen during his first season in Carolina and if the right offer comes along, the Panthers could be willing to eat a large amount of dead-cap money to seal the deal.
Anderson is likely to welcome the opportunity if a contending team comes calling. His speed and efficient route-running could be a major asset elsewhere, but others might be put off by financial outlay on the final year of his deal.
This makes a ton more sense than shipping D.J. Moore out, that’s for sure. Although one suspects that is not really on the table whether the Panthers hold a fire sale or not.
Carolina has failed their primary skill position players so far this season. There is a high likelihood of P.J. Walker starting at the Los Angeles Rams in Week 6, which is unlikely to bring a significant turnaround in fortunes if history is any indication.
