Donte Jackson – Carolina Panthers CB

This would be an unpopular move to many Carolina Panthers fans. But an established veteran such as Donte Jackson could be valuable for another franchise looking to make a deep postseason run.

The Panthers decided to extend Jackson this offseason in favor of keeping Stephon Gilmore around. Another failed personnel move that’s had an adverse effect on the team’s chances of being competitive.

Jackson has talent. However, there are deficiencies in coverage on occasion and if a sufficient trade offer came along, Carolina would be foolish not to discuss the possibility.

The former second-round selection out of LSU is a team leader and one of the more vocal presences on the roster. There is no room for sentiment when it comes to roster building, so general manager Scott Fitterer could make a statement now that his power’s increased exponentially in the wake of Matt Rhule’s firing.

There is a chance Jackson could command a Day 2 selection, which would help. It also means the Panthers could turn their attention to developing their young guys such as Jaycee Horn, C.J. Henderson, and Keith Taylor Jr.

It’ll be interesting to see how Carolina approaches this situation in the not-too-distant future. These upcoming decisions will no doubt have huge ramifications on the team’s future aspirations.
