4 Panthers players who could be demoted in Week 6 at LA Rams
By Dean Jones
Myles Hartsfield – Carolina Panthers DB
There was a huge sense of anticipation surrounding the cornerback unit heading into the campaign. This group looked loaded with talent and potential, but the strain of trying to compensate for a lackluster offense has led to some complications.
Aside from Jaycee Horn, who looks like a true shutdown cornerback and a franchise player upon returning from a broken foot, it’s been inconsistent from the Carolina Panthers secondary overall. Steve Wilks knows plenty about this group as their former defensive backs coach, which could lead to some roster tinkering now he has the authority to do so.
One player that could suffer is Myles Hartsfield. The versatile player’s operated at safety and nickel cornerback this season, but his unreliability in coverage is costing the team in big moments and that has to change.
Hartsfield is giving up 58.3 of passes thrown his way and conceding a 115.3 passer rating when targeted. Teams are targeting the former undrafted prospect with profitable results, so this could lead to more involvement from Keith Taylor Jr., who’s been seldom seen on the rotation in 2022.
The Ole Miss product was a favorite of Matt Rhule. Whether Wilks feels the same is another matter.
