The Carolina Panthers finally confirmed their decision to trade Christian McCaffrey this week. Although they got a nice return in terms of draft compensation, this is a devastating blow to their hopes of generating any sort of momentum on offense.

Interim head coach Steve Wilks stated that it could be a running back by committee situation in McCaffrey’s absence in Week 7 and beyond. Considering the issues surrounding former fourth-round pick Chuba Hubbard, the Panthers would be wise to give D’Onta Foreman a real opportunity to become their No. 1 option for the remainder of 2022.

Foreman has already filled a similar role for the Tennessee Titans in 2021 when Derrick Henry went down. This experience is something the Panthers should lean on in pursuit of mounting a challenge against a formidable Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive front.

What Foreman’s future holds beyond this season is debatable. Carolina is likely to give Hubbard and perhaps even Raheem Blackshear some carries, but the former Texas standout must be their primary option initially.

How he performs will dictate what happens moving forward. However, backing Foreman to achieve more than 35.5 rushing yards at -114 (bet $114 to win $100) with FanDuel Sportsbook looks pretty safe with increased responsibilities.
