5 Carolina Panthers on the hot seat vs. the Buccaneers in Week 7

Myles Hartsfield – Carolina Panthers DB
Not only has C.J. Henderson struggled to find his feet in 2022, but Myles Hartsfield is another that’s finding life difficult with additional responsibilities on his shoulders. The versatile defensive played every snap at the Los Angeles Rams in Week 6 with Jeremy Chinn on injured/reserve, but it was an indifferent showing despite coming up with eight tackles.
Hartsfield rose up the ranks quickly after his arrival as an undrafted free agent. While he has some use from a rotational role, asking the former Ole Miss standout to become a productive starter might be a little too much.
His ability in coverage has once again been suspect this season. Hartsfield is giving up 66.7 percent of targets thrown his way, which is matched by a concerning 116.9 passer rating when targeted to further heighten doubts.
The Carolina Panthers are clearly trying to make the best of a bad situation right now. This team is under strength, lacking sufficient depth, and failing to offer the fanbase any sort of hope things can improve even gradually.
Hartsfield was a Matt Rhule favorite, which probably helped his cause. But unless things progress encouragingly for the player in the coming weeks, then Carolina’s new staff – whoever they might be – could opt to let him walk in free agency once his contract comes to an end.
