4 remaining scenarios facing Panthers QB Baker Mayfield in 2022

Carolina Panthers start Baker Mayfield again
There is growing confidence in P.J. Walker after his Week 7 showing. However, nobody could say with any great conviction that he can muster enough consistency based on his overall stint with the Carolina Panthers.
If Walker cannot produce the goods against a suspect Atlanta Falcons secondary, then it might force Steve Wilks to rethink his plans to move forward with the Temple product. This could also open the door once again for Baker Mayfield to start in 2022.
While Mayfield is too competitive to be wishing for a teammate’s downfall, he would likely relish the opportunity to get back on the field after things began so poorly. If this scenario occurs, then it represents a last-chance saloon predicament that he must take advantage of.
There are fans who want Mayfield starting right away despite Walker’s impressive performance last weekend. A notion that was almost immediately dismissed by Wilks, who is eager to stamp his own mark on the organization in the hope of winning the head coaching gig beyond 2022.
Should Walker fluff his lines in another winnable divisional game, it might force Wilks’ hand to go with the more experienced Mayfield. Although his lack of consistency since joining the Panthers means nothing whatsoever would be guaranteed if this came to fruition.
