It’s hard to believe, but the Carolina Panthers can take first place in the NFC South with only their third win of the season in Week 8. A disastrous run from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued on Thursday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens, leaving Steve Wilks‘ men and the Atlanta Falcons fighting it out for sole possession of No. 1 in the standings.
Considering how things looked before Matt Rhule was fired, it’s night and day. Things are still hanging by a thread regarding Carolina’s aspirations in 2022, but confidence is high within the locker room and this might be enough to get themselves to 3-0 in the face of divisional opponents this season.
The Falcons are also striving to prove their doubters wrong. This promises to be a physical contest between two hard-hitting teams, with the added incentive sure to bring around an extra sense of urgency on Sunday.

Carolina Panthers DT Derrick Brown gains 4 TFLs
The progress made by defensive tackle Derrick Brown in 2022 has been outstanding. His consistency is much improved and he could be in contention for a first Pro Bowl selection if this form continues over the next 10 games.
Sunday’s game represents another chance for Brown to make his presence felt. Atlanta is without running back Cordarrelle Patterson and their offensive line interior has holes that the former Auburn standout can exploit.
If Brown can gain multiple tackles for loss, it will go a long way to achieving a second-straight win for the Carolina Panthers.
