Carolina Panthers got a mixed bag from P.J. Walker

All eyes were on Carolina Panthers quarterback P.J. Walker on his third consecutive start and the first since his breakout game in Week 7. However, it was a mixed bag from the signal-caller overall, with missed chances and a pick-six in the first half making things much harder than they needed to be.

Credit to Walker for turning it around significantly after the break. There were some errors here and there, but the Temple product got himself out of a hole and concluded the contest with 317 passing yards, one touchdown, one interception and a passer rating of 80.4.

Carolina Panthers might need a new kicker

It was a spirited effort from the Panthers. One that had been sorely missed during the days of Matt Rhule and further highlights the increased professionalism, preparation, and effectiveness of this team under Steve Wilks.

However, it wasn’t enough. The majority of blame falls on the shoulder of kicker Eddy Piniero, who missed two crucial attempts late that might force the Panthers into drastic action with another, more dependable option moving forward.

Carolina Panthers are at a crossroads

Carolina blew their chance to take first position in the NFC South, it’s that simple really. This leaves them firmly at a crossroads at 2-6 but seemingly still in with a shout of winning the division.

Realistically speaking, it’s probably all over. Nobody will be giving up without a fight, but general manager Scott Fitterer should continue planning for the future despite this effort that ended with yet another heartbreaking defeat.
