5 lively outsiders for the Carolina Panthers head coaching job in 2023

Carolina Panthers could target Pep Hamilton
Much was made about Pep Hamilton turning down the opportunity to join the Carolina Panthers this offseason. Matt Rhule was reportedly interested in bringing him on board, but he spurned their advances in favor of working with Davis Mills and the Houston Texas during the current campaign.
Hamilton has deep connections to the Carolinas, so while it might have been surprising to some, it’s a strong indicator as to how the Panthers were being generally perceived across the league.
For all the Texans’ struggles from a results standpoint, their offense is punching well above its weight thanks to Mills’ encouraging development and the fact Hamilton is doing more with less. Something that’s increasing his reputation in difficult circumstances.
Considering Hamilton was without star wide receiver Brandin Cooks on Thursday Night Football against the unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles, the offense performed pretty well led by Hamilton and running back Dameon Pierce. His scheme was methodical and creative, enabling his players to get into space and work their magic accordingly.
If the Panthers went back to Hamilton with an interview request now Rhule is no longer part of their plans, he’d likely be much more receptive. The Charlotte native also fits the offensive-minded coach David Tepper is looking for according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.
Houston is going nowhere fast. But Hamilton’s reputation has grown in a prominent play-calling position.
