Greg Olsen – Former Carolina Panthers TE

Much like the situation at linebacker, the Carolina Panthers have missed the presence of tight end Greg Olsen providing pass-catching assurance since he was allowed to leave in 2020 free agency for the Seattle Seahawks. Matt Rhule wanted to form his own identity by removing influential figures, but his chosen replacements just haven’t cut the mustard and this was another primary reason behind his failed tenure.

Olsen spent one season in Seattle before retiring as a Panther and moving into the FOX Sports booth. He is now their lead game analyst after Troy Aikman switched to ESPN and it’s a role where he is thriving as anticipated.

The former Miami standout’s personality and supreme football nous come across in a big way. Olsen is engaging and personable in equal measure, which are traits normally associated with head coaches as well as analysts on major networks.

There’s no doubt Olsen still cares deeply about the Panthers organization. He formed deep roots in the area and if offered the job, might just consider it despite his current career path.

Jeff Saturday’s appointment might be a one-off, especially if it goes horribly. But should things go better than anticipated with the Indianapolis Colts, then it could tempt David Tepper into going in a similar direction.

The NFL is a copycat league, after all.
