Carolina Panthers vs. Falcons early odds and prediction for Week 10
By Dean Jones
The Carolina Panthers look to put their latest embarrassing loss behind them when they take on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 10.
There isn’t much time for the Carolina Panthers to lick their wounds after a disastrous showing at the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9. Another difficult proposition awaits on Thursday Night Football, with the Atlanta Falcons coming to town for the team’s only primetime game of the 2022 season.
Steve Wilks wasted no time ringing the changes after such a dismal showing. Out went defensive backs coach Evan Cooper and defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni, which comes after underachievement in both critical areas throughout the campaign.
Wilks is also keeping faith with P.J. Walker despite his benching last weekend. The quarterback’s electrifying second-half display at the Falcons was probably his saving grace, but the margin for error is now shorter than ever given how well Baker Mayfield performed and Carolina activating Sam Darnold from injured/reserve.
As strange as it might sound, the Panthers are not completely dead in the water regarding their divisional chances. Although another loss under the national spotlight would be the final nail in their coffin.
A big performance of real character is needed. Whether this team is capable of attaining such feats after another morale-crushing loss is debatable.

Carolina Panthers vs. Falcons prediction for Week 10
Although the Panthers should have beaten Atlanta on the road before causing their own demise late on, there’s just no telling what such a heavy defeat at the Bengals has done to the team’s confidence. Wilks has to galvanize this group on a short week, which is the latest challenge facing the interim head coach in his quest to convince team owner David Tepper he’s worthy of a longer-term commitment.
The Falcons gave the Los Angeles Chargers all they could handle last weekend before throwing it away in the closing stages. Carolina also has to cope with the return of star running back Cordarrelle Patterson, who completely changes how the Panthers will approach their defensive game plan in Week 10.
Perhaps the national glare and wearing the all-black helmets will provide an extra sense of urgency. But nobody could say with any great confidence Carolina is capable of turning things around on home soil.
Regardless of which way it goes, it should be close. Backing the Panthers +3.0 is the early prediction during a make-or-break game for Wilks and Walker.
