Carolina Panthers hold Cordarrelle Patterson under 50 rushing yards

Things won’t be as easy for the Carolina Panthers on Thursday thanks in no small part to the return of Cordarrelle Patterson. The veteran looked back to his old self during the Atlanta Falcons’ loss against the Los Angeles Chargers, which is something that Steve Wilks and his staff should take extremely seriously in Week 10.

It took Patterson a while to find out just what a truly special player he could be carrying the football. But better late than never for the Tennessee product and the Falcons are benefitting as a result.

Patterson will fancy his chances of a big night at the Panthers, who were run all over by Joe Mixon and crushed at the line of scrimmage by the Cincinnati Bengals last time out. Carolina is currently giving up 139.3 rushing yards per game on the ground – ranked No. 28 across the league – which stems from poor gap discipline on the edge and suspect production on running downs at the second level.

The Panthers will look to put things right after being embarrassed throughout their clash with the Bengals. It’ll take an enormous amount of resolve and accountability, but stopping Patterson in his tracks will go a long way to securing their third win of 2022.

This bold prediction appears unlikely after what we’ve witnessed from Carolina’s run defense lately. Holding someone like Patterson to less than 50 rushing yards would be an encouraging step in the right direction.
