Frankie Luvu – Carolina Panthers LB

The Carolina Panthers deservedly gave Frankie Luvu a new contract and a promotion into the starting lineup after a fantastic first year with the franchise. His explosive production from a rotational role in 2021 was one of the very few highlights and although the former Washington State star dealt with some injury issues, it’s been largely positive.

There hasn’t been a great deal of consistency alongside Luvu at the second level. But the player’s effort, energy, and instincts continue to catch the eye.

Luvu needs to make more of a difference in opposing backfields when given the chance. However, there’s every chance his performance levels can increase once the Panthers acquire better reinforcements across their defensive front seven.

Carolina has a solid base on defense to potentially emerge as of of the league’s brightest units if a few key holes are filled beforehand. Luvu should keep his place despite the potential coaching changes and some growing leadership within the locker room is also having the desired effect.

Not many expected Luvu to carve out this sort of role for himself upon signing from the New York Jets in free agency. The Panthers have benefitted as a result, but it’s important to address certain positions around the outside linebacker during what promises to be another eventful offseason.
