Carolina Panthers should target Joey Porter Jr.

  • Cornerback | Penn State

Regardless of what some might say, adding to the cornerback room is another need for the Carolina Panthers. Jaycee Horn looks well on course to becoming a shutdown presence, but Donte Jackson, Keith Taylor, and C.J Henderson haven’t provided the consistency needed opposite the former No. 8 overall selection more often than not this season.

Perhaps the new regime keeps faith in this quartet in the hope they can evolve. But one cannot dismiss the notion of Carolina acquiring another talented presence from the college ranks if the right opportunity comes along.

If this scenario comes to fruition, then Joey Porter Jr. is a prospect to monitor. The Penn State standout is the son of prolific former linebacker Joey Porter Sr. and looks set to carve out a successful role for himself at the next level with further refinement.

Porter has the quickness and eye-catching footwork to make a smooth transition. His press coverage skills are also top notch and the player has no trouble working slot responsibilities depending on the scenario.

The defensive back is a little too hands-on on occasions, which isn’t uncommon. Porter is an outstanding talent all things considered and if he is available early on Day 2, then the Panthers would need to have a serious discussion.
